The first generation of the Mini John Cooper Works GP was introduced for the 2006 model year. A high performance, special edition variant of the First Generation Mini Cooper, the John Cooper Works GP features aggressive bodywork as well as improvements to the engine, suspension, and brakes. Alongside the uprated 215hp 1.6L supercharged engine, a wide range of weight saving measures were used, including removal of the rear seats, to aid in giving the Works GP greater performance. Only 2000 examples of the Mini John Cooper Works GP were built for worldwide sale in 2006.

- In total, just 2,000 examples of the first generation Cooper S JCW GP were produced for the international market, with this car being marked as number 1,509 of that limited global production run and one of only 437 examples supplied to the UK
- Produced as a focussed and lighter version of the peppy and enjoyable Cooper S, the John Cooper Works GP did away with the standard car’s rear seats in favour of a substantial brace bar, helping to reduce its weight by approximately 50kg
- Powered by its 1.6-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 218bhp to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox and a retrofitted limited-slip differential
